Most affordable BMW Sedan 2 Series in India
BMW 2 Series Grand Coupe
BMW India is all set to introduce the new 2-Series Gran Coupe in India which is going to be the most affordable BMW car in Indian market to compete with Mercedes A Class and Audi A3. The car is about to come in Indian market in the last quarter of the year 2020.
The BMW 2-Series is currently in its second-generation and was introduced in October last year, with launch in a few international markets following in March 2020. The new 2-Series is underpinned by the UKL platform and utilizes a front-wheel-drive format. The primary benefit of front-wheel-drive architecture is the liberation of interior space. The lack of a bulging transmission tunnel and rear differential allows for more space in the cabin, as well as the boot.
Considering that BMW has always been criticized in India for the lack of space, this seems to be a smart move.
Even the ride is very impressive. Now you may think that the car is compact and the BMW wants to make it fun to drive, the suspension will be stiff and hard to ride. this however is not the case. The ride quality is superb and the suspension is extremely silent, even over bad roads of India the springs absorbs road shocks without tossing you around. This car is highly stable and you will feel confident to push it on higher speed in highways.
The Cabin is in typically BMW fashion, and share many elements with other BMW vehicles. The 2-series Gran Coupe has three engine options available. The first one is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (on 220i), which generates 140 PS and 220 Nm. The second one is a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (in 220d), which churns out 190 PS and 400 Nm. The last one is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (in 220i), which develops 230 PS and 350 Nm.
We expect only the 220i and the 220d to launch in India, with prices ranging from Rs39 to Rs44 lakhs.
We think this compact four-door coupe should be able to provide a viable entry point for the BMW in India since the 3 Series is now much more expensive than before.
The side-profile features 17-inch alloy wheels and 18-inch optional, which fill the arches beautifully. The roof line slopes gently at the rear, giving this car a coupe-style. The 2 series Gran Coupe measures 4,526 mm of length, 1,800 mm of width and a height of 1,420 mm with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm and a boot space of 430 liters which makes it pretty practical car for weekend trips.
At the rear, the tail lamp design appears to be borrowed from the expensive 8 Gran Coupe as well and looks quite attractive for a small compact sedan. The BMW Grand coupe also doesn’t feel very low-slung, and visibility from the driver’s seat is excellent. Other impressive bits are the quality and equipment levels, especially on the higher-spec versions. The 2 Series Gran Coupe, however, is clearly down on space to the larger 3 Series.
The design of the 2-Series Gran Coupe is not as controversial as a few of the other BMW cars with sharp yet bulbous headlamps, a decently-sized ‘kidney grille’, and a wide air dam it looks aggressive and packed with all modern and safety features. Since BMW are known as ultimate driving machines with a tough build quality, customers will definitely love to keep one in their garage.
